Today’s Objective
1.1 Students will describe the interactions among the Native
Americans, Europeans, and Africans in Colonial America
How we are going to get
there
Creating a graphic organizer to compare and contrast
Native Americans, Europeans, and Africans.
But first….we write!
Respond to the following prompt in 5-7 sentences. You do
not need to copy down the prompt just the number of it:
Daily Spark #1
Christopher Columbus is often credited with “discovering”
America, although the land he discovered was already
inhabited (meaning people already lived there.) Imagine that
you are one of the Native Americans who was living in North
America when Columbus arrived. You later learn that he has
taken credit for the “discovery” of your home.
On your paper…
Draw 3 overlapping bubbles and label like them so…
Europeans
Africans
Native Americans
Now you need to…
In the next 10 minutes, by yourself, fill in everything you can
think of about each of the 3 groups and any of the things
they have in common.
After the 10 minutes are up you can use your textbook to fill
in more information for 15 minutes
Now use 1 partner and share with each other what you
have. Add to your Graphic Organizer anything that you
may have missed.
Now we share…
Go back to your seats and we will create a whole class chart
Before you leave
Write 1-2 sentences about something you want or need to
know more about the 3 different groups that we discussed
today
Make sure your name, date, and period are all on your
paper before you put it in the basket
