Importance of Foundation Courses (AVI courses)
Students are highly encouraged to take the foundation courses in each grade level. Artistic skills and
knowledge build sequentially over the four years. The foundation courses offer a good grounding in
basic skills which allow each student to be successful in developing a professional portfolio. These
courses offer drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital illustration, and design. The AVI
Foundation series courses also serve as prerequisites for most of the special series courses.
